We weren't born to follow....come on and get up off your knees...hold on to what you believe-- December 15 1998

I smiled at Blaise's attempt to cover up his flippant comment. He wasn't going to pull the wool over Madelyn's eyes any more than I would, so I stayed quiet and let him try to fix this. But she already knew something was amiss with our predicament.

The spells had sent us both flying in the other directions as a large crack echoed from the courtyard. I knew more people would come to find us. I lay in the rubble closer to the school doors. I picked my head up as I saw Tom doing the same thing. I looked around to find my wand, good news he didn't have his either. I hoisted myself up and peered around. I needed to find my wand and fast. I noticed it was about five yards in front of me as I looked ahead of me and noticed it didn't seem like I was the only one to find his wand. I urged my beaten and bloody body to move as fast as I could go. I knew everyone here was fighting for me. I had to fight until he stopped breathing.

I know I can do this, I got to my wand about the same time as Tom. "Expelliarmus!" I shouted as the familiar green light headed towards me as I heard some screams coming from behind me.

I had finally gotten to the point where I was close enough to James -- to my supposed father -- to the man who killed Peter.  Peter was the only man in my life and I looked up to him.  I was not going to let James get away with killing him.  I only saw red as I made my way across the battlefield towards James Potter.  He was going to pay.  Blasts and shouts surrounded me, but I did not care.  It was time for me to get my revenge.  I had blood spattered all over me and I had injuries from the fighting, but none of that bothered me now.  I was going to kill him.

I was running around the grounds of Hogwarts, trying to find my twin brother. I had head that Peter had died and knew that Evan would try to get revenge on our father for killing him. I had blood splatter all over my body and my left arm had sustained an injury. I couldn't move it very well but I knew I had to find Evan. I knew he was closer to Peter then our dad but I couldn't let he do something he might regret someday. Finally, I saw him and ran faster towards him. "Evan!" I yelled, trying to get his attention. "You can't do this! He's our father!"

I heard my name and spun around to see Faith, my twin sister.  My sister who had everything I ever wanted -- our mother.  Instead I got Peter, for which I was grateful because he did give me so much.  But the way he spoke of Lily... I loved her, I really did and I barely remembered her.  Peter never let me see her since he took me away -- so save me, he said.  And I believed he did save me... because look how Faith turned out.  She was weak and naive.  She came to me and I shook my head at her.  "He may be your father, but he was never mine," I said darkly.  "He took peter's life with his bare hands... he has to pay for that."  There was no other way.

I was shocked by what he had said, fully understanding the effects Peter had on him for the first time. "Peter was not your father Evan." I said shaking my head. "I will not let you hurt our father." I waned to convince him that Peter had been on the wrong side but I knew now was not the time. "He lied to you about us, about everything." I wasn't sure what Peter had told him about me but the fact that we were having a somewhat civil conversation, and he wasn't trying to kill me, I figured it couldn't have been that bad.

I laughed darkly.  "Well, why don't we ask him about that?  Oh, that's right, James murdered him.  He's dead.  I can't ask him a bloody thing anymore," I spat angrily.  Peter had warned me not to come tonight - that it was too dangerous for a fifteen year old.  But I knew that something could happen to him... and I had seen what that was.  I had doubts and questions about everything and I wanted to help make sure that he could answer them when this was over.  But I had failed and Peter was dead.

I flinched slightly at his words, how could Peter have done this to him? "I'm truly sorry for everything you've been through Evan but I will not let you harm our father." I said. "You can have me if you need someone but I won't let you hurt him." I had to protect my brother from himself. I wouldn't let him do this. "I promise you one day you will know the truth and regret this if you did anything to him." I vowed that I would be the one to convince him that everything Peter had said was a lie. I owed it to mum, dad, and Harry.

I saw Evan and Faith out of the corner of my eye, and Faith looked like she lost an argument. I followed his gaze and it was at dad. I felt anger rise through me. I have already lost him and mum once I am not losing them again. With Tom vanished somewhere else in the castle. I had not noticed I was already moving towards them. I saw red, I urged myself to go faster as I ended up jumping across the rocks. I prepared myself for impact as I took Evan to the ground.

I doubted what Faith was saying to me; James killed Peter.  The answers to my doubts and questions could not be answered by anyone else.  Why had he lied to me that Faith was gone? ...Lily?  If those were lies, were what he told me about James all lies, too?  That I was not entirely sure about -- he had just killed Peter after all.  I opened my mouth to say something back to Faith when I got knocked to the ground.  I rolled away from the person who tackled me to see that it was Harry.  I sneered at him, knowing that this fight was one that was a long time coming.  I was two years younger and really should not be there in the midst of the battle, but I did not care.  I had wanted to help Peter the best I could... but I had been too late.  And if I could not make James pay for what he did himself, then the sins of the father would go down to his son.

I could see that Evan was about to say something else when Harry tackled him to the ground. "Evan!" I yelled, "Harry! Stop it! You can't hurt your brother!!" I wasn't sure who I was taking to, they both needed to hear it. Harry had been the one to tackle Evan and I feared Evan might be thinking that if he couldn't hurt our dad, Harry would have to suffice. I was happy that Evan had rolled away from Harry, even if it might have been to run right back at him or to get out his wand. I ran in between my brothers before either had the chance to do anything else. It they wanted to fight, I would be in the middle of it too. "Guys calm down." I looked between them, hoping they would listen to me.

I gripped my wand tightly and glared at Faith and Harry.  "Faith, get out of the way," I said in a deadly calm.  There was no way I was going to hurt my sister.  She and Mum were the only ones I actually cared about in this godforsaken family.

I finally found Draco and Juniper in the Great Hall.  Of course they were in the makeshift infirmary.  They had been in the heart of it all it seemed -- always.  I rushed up to them and was relieved to see that they were both at least awake.  I sighed and shook my head slightly.  "You're okay," I said with relief as I got close enough for them to hear me.  "Aren't you?" I asked to clarify.

I whipped my head around towards the voice, recognizing it right away. What was he doing here? My headache came back suddenly from moving my head too quickly. I squinted my eyes shut and pressed my figures to my forehead. Once the pain started to go away, I opened my eyes and turned to him. "What are you doing here? It's too dangerous. We're okay." I tuned, slower, to Mrs. Lupin. "We're getting checked out right now. You don't need to worry though."

I nodded at him and looked between the two of them.  I could recognize those looks.  I sighed and could not help but roll my eyes.  If they must... then I would keep my mouth shut.  I wanted to smack Juniper upside the head when she said it was too dangerous for Lincoln.  He was older than us... he could handle it.
