The Start of Something New - September 1991

"We are aren't we" I smile in agreement. I grab a few matches from the box and perform the spell on each of them. Only one retained the colour of the match while having the shape of the needle like Juniper's first try.

I nodded in agreement and followed suite. All of mine turned into needles although some of them were not very sharp. I smiled up at her. "We almost have it."

I smile. The next few I was able to turn all of them into needles, though some were different sizes and thickness. "Your turn. Go Juniper!" I say encouragingly.

"Good job!" I concentrated on the next few in front of me and was able to turn them all into needles with various shades of brown through silver. I smiled up at her "Your turn."

"Those look cool" I say motioning to her needles. Grabbing a few more matches, I cast the spell. The needles were again a mix of different sizes, but this time were all gold instead of silver.

"Here, don't look at mine." I noticed hers weren't the right colour, just like mine were. I pushed mine aside so she couldn't see them and placed some of my unused matches in front of her. "Try it again, this time think of the beautiful silver colour they'll all be."

"Why does McGonagall require them to be silver instead of other metals though? While yes, most needles are silver, there are gold and other metal ones too. Oh well, maybe it is so that it helps students to focus?" I say, then concentrated on picturing silver needles. I cast the spell on the matches and they all came out the same size and were silver. I then grab some matches and lay them out in front of Juniper. "Go ahead. I find it helped to picture exactly the shape, size and colour of the needle. Take a moment to focus yourself."

I did what she suggested. I closed my eyes and pictured all the matches turning into sharp, silver needles. I took a deep breath, opened my eyes and said the spell. I was surprised when each match turned into identical silver needles. I smiled at her, "Told ya we were getting it."

"Good job!" I smile. Looking around to make sure no one was close enough to us, I leaned forward. "Wanna go get something to eat from the kitchens? We missed lunch" I say quietly, motioning to my watch. "My sister told me how to get in. I don't know how she figured it out though... But what do you say?"

I looked at her watch and realized she was right. I was hungry and if she knew how to get into the kitchen....I nodded and smiled, hoping we wouldn't run into Draco on the way. "I could eat."

"Great!" I smile. I started putting everything away, putting all the needles into the matchbox. "Ready to go?" I asked when I finished.

I followed suit and nodded at her as I stood up, "Lead the way."

I stood up and shouldered my bag. I lead the way out of the library. Once in the hall, I started in the direction of the closest stairwell that would take us to the entrance hall, which would lead to the kitchens. "So, whats your favourite dessert?" I ask.

I followed her down the hall, taking a moment to think before I answered, "Vanilla cupcakes with chocolate icing." I said with a smile. "What about you?"

"Oh that sounds good!" I smile. "Um actually its hard for me to decide. Basically most chocolate desserts works for me. As long as it isn't cheesecake, I'm good. Maybe the houselves have some cupcakes? I am sure if we ask nicely, we can have some for dessert." I smile.
