1 September 1991 - "[He] was really beautiful. He was handsome — this orphan, this foundling, this outcast."

"I bet we're going to want to change soon, don't you think?" I asked, then I remembered what he had bought for his wand and cauldron and whatnot.  "Er... when it had said robes, did you get a dressing gown?  Do you need to borrow some of mine so you match everyone?"  I could only imagine him walking in wearing a dressing gown rather than school robes.  It would be horrible for him.

I wondered why they wanted me to bring a robe; I'd imagined it had something to do with covering up in the communal bathroom or something. I grabbed my suitcase and pulled out a green terry cloth robe. Almost laughing at myself, I said, "You mean, this isn't what you brought?"

I was digging in my trunk and turned around, unable to stop myself from laughing.  I pulled out the robes that the school had meant and tossed one to him.  "That's what we were supposed to have," I said, shaking my head.  "At least you've got something to cover your pajamas if ever needed."  I tried to look at the bright side of things for him.

"I guess," I agreed, beginning to laugh as well. "Thanks for letting me borrow them. Once I get the real stuff, I'll give them back to you."

I shrugged.  "It's not a problem," I assured him.  "I can always tell my mum and dad that I ruined them during a cy-class or something."  I nearly slipped up peaking about my lycanthropy.  I was not used to getting along with another kid for this long where I would have to watch what I said.  Normally I got bored or they ended up not liking me or something and we went our separate ways.  Why could cycle not have changed into a better word?

"What do you learn in a cy-class?" I wondered aloud. "Is it like the equivalent to history, language arts, P.E.?"

I needed to really cover my tracks here.  "Er, did I say cy-class?  I meant fly class.  On brooms.  Sometimes I get a bit excited and mix my words together," I said, chuckling.  That was easily believable, right?

I shrugged, not even remembering what he'd originally said. My mind was too preoccupied by the thought of flying on broomsticks. "You mean, like Halloween witches?" I asked, knowing that I immediately sounded ridiculous to him.

"Erm... maybe," I said, trying to think of the way the Muggles portrayed witches.  Then I remembered:  they wore black, pointy hats, had green sticks, and rode around on broomsticks.  I grinned at him.  "In a way, I suppose so.  You just hop on and hold on.  You can steer it and stuff.  My Mum got me a toy one when I was younger, it only went a couple of feet off the ground, but it was fun."

My eyes lit up. "That sounds awesome," I proclaimed. I was becoming more and more interested in this whole magic thing, especially the thought of flying around on a broomstick even though that part might sound a little strange. "What other classes are there?"

The classes they had at Hogwarts were the same as in Alma Aleron, right?  That was my logic anyways.  "Well, there's potions, herbology, charms, transfiguration... those are pretty much the main core classes," I answered.  "But, at least at Hogwarts, there's other classes like arithmancy, care of magical creatures, Muggle studies... things like that."

"Muggle?" I wondered aloud. "All those sound really fun. Do you have a favorite at all, or anything that you think you'll do well in?"

I grinned.  "Actually, I think that Potions will be my best subject," I said, knowing how much easier it would be when I could finally brew my own potion.  Mum did it for me now and she let me watch and help her slightly -- when I could, anyways.  "But another subject I nearly forgot about is Defense Against the Dark Arts.  That one I think will be the most fun."  I was exposed more to the Dark Arts than to the defending part, but it would still be cool.  "What were you good at before all of this?  Maybe they'd have something similar..."

"I doubt it," I said, shaking my head. "It sounds like the classes here aren't really anything like the ones back at -- what did you call them, Muggles? -- school. But that's all right, it'll give me lots of practice with some really awesome things."

"Oh, right.  Yeah, Muggles are nonmagical folks," I said, forgetting that he had been around Muggles his whole life.  "A lot of the time I don't think us who've been with magic all the time have much advantage and there are a lot of Muggle-born kids, too... so experience is all over the board."
