After School Years:  He taught at Hogwarts between the years of 1938ish to 1981, when he retired, as the Potions master.  He has one daughter, Mia, who he had when he was around 40 years old.  He loved her dearly, but she still decided to run away from home around her last year of school at Hogwarts because of the rise of Voldemort.  He knew being influential and pureblood would have it's intrigue to the Death Eaters, but he had not spoken to Mia since she ran away from the wizarding world.  She wanted nothing to do with it and its dangers she had told him.

He does not know that he has a grandson named Lincoln Riley Matthews.
