Rumors get you nowhere -- 1993

I was not entirely sure if I believed the rumors.  I mean, Juniper dating a Potter?  Even though he was a Slytherin, Potter was far too young for her.  I was ridiculous.  Nevertheless, I was going to have words with Evan Potter about my sister.  I spetn too much time protecting her to have him mess her up.

I was sitting in a chair, working on some Potions work, when Malfoy came approaching me.  I glanced up at him.  I went back to my work.  When he sat down, I sighed.  "Malfoy," I said, acknowledging his presence before looking at him again.  I was not intimidated by him like many were.

I sat there staring at the first year.  What did Juniper even se ein Potter?  "What is it that you think you're doing?" I questioned, jumping right in.  Even though he was in the same House, I was not going to be associated with a Potter -- not when he was related to Harry Potter...that bloody git.

Of course, I was jealous of him.  He was popular -- even without being famous.  I had to try so hard to be the perfect example of what I was supposed to be... he could always be himself and poeple liked him.  I wihsed I could do that.

I stared at Malfoy, utterly confused but kind of enjoying seeing him angry.  "Right now I'm attempting to do homework," I said to Malfoy simply.  "In life... well, that's still up in the air." I knew that it was angering him even more for me being a smart aleck, but I was enjoying it.

I wanted to hit him -- perhaps I would by the time this was finshed -- but that was not a wise idea quite yet.  "You and Juniper," I said to him tersely.

I still could not follow what he was getting at, but his face was getting rather pink and it was entertaining.  "Juniper and I?  Whatever do you mean?  The fact that she helped me with Astronomy once?" I questioned, knowing that I could not make him this mad for long before he blew.

I stopped fuming for a moment and looked at Potter.  It was clear he was clueless.  I sat down and looked at him closely.  "You mean that's all you and Juniper have done?" I inquired, not wanting to say anything else.

I sighed.  "As much as I'd love to be the reason you are this upset," I pointed out to him, rolling my eyes in the process, "i merely have studied with Juniper and that is all.  I think you are forgetting that there is more than one Potter in this school.  The other is actually your age, mind you."

I glared at Potter and then I realized what he said, then I got utterly furious.  "You're saying she's dating your brother?" I nearly shouted in anger.  I realized that I never said that there was dating involved, but how could i keep control when I realized it was that Potter she was hanging out with and bloody dating?

I could not help but smirk.  "Obviously," I said to him casually.  "Because I wouldn't be daft enough to do anything like that."  I enjoyed seeing the anger written plainly on Malfoy's face.

I realized how angry I really was.  "You're right; only the most daft and ignorant person would think to go against me... which is obviously Harry," I said darkly.
