After School Years:  Cathie did not get married until late in life at the age of thirty.  Her husband, Robert, had ideals of a wife that did not fit Cathie at all.  He wanted a maid for the most part, not a partner.  It had not become clear to Cathie of his desires until after they were married.  She put up with it for five years and then she suggested that they separate.  It came as quite a shock to Robert, but he still agreed to it because he did love her and wanted to give her whatever she needed or wanted.  That was when she first met Jonathan.  They hit it off instantly.  Their love was cut short due to her being pregnant -- something she had never expected or planned on happening at the age she was.  She was nearly positive that it was her husband's, so she and John broke it off.  If it had been John's, she would have left Robert in a heartbeat.  She was positive that she had wanted to go through with the divorce in the first place as soon as she fell desperately in love with Jonathan Lupin.  But fate would not have it that way.  When John visited in the hospital after Penny was born, Cathie was happy with Robert.  He was a changed man it seemed... all he needed was a child to make all the difference.

Only after four years did Robert digress back into the man that Cathie could not stand.  She quickly filed for divorce after having tried and failed at making it work for Penelope's sake.  She was only four years old, but Cathie could no longer do it.  After the custody hearing was settled, they did a paternity test with John.  He was Penny's father.  Something that Cathie had wished had happened four years previous so she could have been with the love of her life the whole time.
